Patmos Island is a very small island; hence there are no international airports of any kind there. Truly, the best way to reach Patmos Island is through the seas via ships or ferry boats. There is an option to fly to Patmos via helicopter, but this is a very rare option for most tourists.
Since there are no airports in Patmos Island, one may reach Patmos by air by going to their closest airports in the Samos Island, Kos Island and Leros Island. For further information, you may contact Olympic Airlines at +30 210 9365433.
The sea is the most convenient and most sought after method of reaching Patmos Island. Tourists may choose to ride sailing yachts, ferry boats and the fastest way is the Flying dolphin, or the Hydrofoil.
For tourists who feel like taking an adventurous sea experience, then going to Patmos Island via sailing yacht is the way to go. With the sailing, you will board a sailing yacht which is commandeered by an experienced sailing captain. Tourists will surely be enchanted by the stops and scenes of the island as the captain and his crew takes them on any spot in the island and back – for as long as they like.
Throughout the rest of the year, ferry boats are made available for transport to Patmos Island. These ferry boats depart from Athens (Piraeus) to Patmos, or to other islands in the Dodecanese group, and event the Eastern Aegean Islands. The ferry boats leave Piraeus port daily, and tickets are available at the port. Visitors should come earlier as most tourists miss their boats due to the long line in the ticket queue. Travel time usually takes around 9-10 hours for the ferry boats from the port of Piraeus to reach the Patmos Island. For more information, Piraeus Port Police may be reached at telephone number +30 210 4226000.
